Conversations we're having
We ran some co-design workshops in November with farmers and other experts to help us work out how the regulatory system needs to change. We shared the outputs of that work on the blog. After those workshops, we began planning the next phase of our co-design work on regulation. I’d like to share our progress in this post.
Farmers like Harry Baker Cresswell are helping us to shape the future of farming in England. In this video, Harry explains what it was like working with Defra to test and trial land management plans. He shows us around Preston Mains Farm and talks about the improvements he will make in his own land management plan.
Gabe Brown is this month's podcast guest. The American soil health pioneer and agricultural influencer talks to Janet Hughes about education in farming, shortening supply chains and the six principles of soil health.
We are invited to join a number of panel discussions, Q&A sessions and webinars, hosted by external organisations. This post contains links to some recent discussions.

Farm visits are an opportunity for farmers to tell us about the issues they are facing and to make clear the realities of farming. Due to COVID-19, physical farm visits stopped. The experience was too valuable to abandon, so we created virtual farm visits instead. Michael Sturla shares more.
In our first ever podcast, Programme Director Janet Hughes talks to farmer Neil Heseltine. Neil shares his approach to farming and his views on the Future Farming and Countryside Programme. Janet and Neil also discuss sustainability, profitability and care for our environment.
Farmers were invited to put their questions to Defra’s Janet Hughes and David Kennedy at The Farming Forum's most recent Question Time. Questions included payment rates, the role of advisers and how new schemes and services will be tested.
