As part of our commitment to keeping you updated on the progress of the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 (SFI26), we said we would share updates as funding is allocated.
We can confirm that around 50% of the Window 1 budget has now been allocated, based on applications received so far.
Demand started strong on the first day of the scheme’s opening and has now levelled out. It is within the range of uptake scenarios we expected.
It is positive to see sustained interest in the scheme, reflecting the importance many farmers place on securing support that contributes to sustainable food production while benefiting nature and the environment.
If you are eligible to apply in Window 1 and have not yet submitted an application, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Submitting a complete and accurate application early will help reduce the risk of delays.
Before submitting your application through the Rural Payments service, check that your digital maps show:
- all the land parcels you want to include in your SFI26 application, with the correct areas and land covers. If you need to update your maps, use the Rural Payments service to ask the RPA to do this as soon as possible
- at least 3ha of agricultural land - otherwise, you won’t be able to start an SFI26 application
Read section 7 ‘Get ready to apply’ in the SFI26 scheme rules and guidance for more information.
Eligible applicants who do not apply during Window 1 will have the opportunity to apply during Window 2. Window 2 is expected to open in September.
We will continue to monitor demand and will provide a further update when approximately 75% of the £60 million Window 1 budget has been allocated.
