We went to these shows intending to talk about the changes coming in the farming sector, but just as importantly, to listen to concerns and learn from different experiences. Some themes emerged from the conversations we had. This post is about what we heard, and how we're responding.
Environmental land management needs to deliver for farmers, foresters and land managers. Because it’s a big and complex area, it’s tempting to consider these groups of people separately, but for our policies and schemes to truly work, we need to bring these groups together. Farm visits are an opportunity for farmers to tell us about the issues they are facing and to make clear the realities of farming. Due to COVID-19, physical farm visits stopped. The experience was too valuable to abandon, so we created virtual farm visits instead. Michael Sturla shares more.
